New solar panels St Ninian Bowling Club – Solar Panel ProjectSt Ninian Bowling Club has recently completed a project to install solar panels and a batterystorage system, significantly improving the energy efficiency of the club’s pavilion. Grantsupport was provided through the Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES),with the primary aim of reducing reliance on mains electricity and lowering the building’soverall carbon footprint. The project involved the installation of 12 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, supported by abattery storage system. Together, these allow the club to make greater use of renewableenergy generated on site, while further reducing dependence on mains electricity. The process began with the club engaging AES Solar (now AES Renewables), a well-respected local company based in Forres, to carry out a feasibility study. The study confirmedthat installing solar panels would significantly reduce electricity consumption from the grid, while delivering clear environmental benefits and long-term cost savings. As the club did nothave sufficient funds to meet the installation costs independently, it was recommended thatsupport be sought from CARES.CARES, managed by Local Energy Scotland, supports communities across Scotland toengage with and benefit from the transition to net zero emissions. Following guidance fromCARES, a Business Energy Scotland Energy Efficiency Assessment was also completed inApril 2025 to ensure the project aligned with best practice in energy efficiency andsustainability. All forward planning was undertaken in line with the grant application requirements, withCARES staff providing invaluable advice and support throughout the process, helping toensure the project was well planned and successfully delivered. The project is now complete, with the solar panels and battery storage system fully installed. The club now looks forward to a greener, more sustainable future. St Ninian Bowling Club About St Ninian BC Welcome to Nairn St Ninian Bowling Club. We are a family friendly club that welcomes all to come and play bowls. Established in May 1961 we have served the community of Nairn for many years. The club is located in the heart of Nairn next to the museum just a short walk from the town centre. If you have never tried bowls, and want to feel welcome, then please come and try. All you require is a flat pair of shoes as the club will have everything else you require. We look forward to welcoming all visitors to our friendly family club. Bowling is, without doubt a fantastic sport for bonding with family and friends. Lawn bowls has given people of all ages the opportunity to exercise both indoor and outdoor in a social or competitive environment coupled with the physical exercise aspect that medically has proven to give longer life. Lifting, bending, walking and, in some cases, sprinting down the green to the rapturous applause of team mates, friends and in some instances thousands of spectators gives both the body a euphoric experience that few sports can offer over a lifetime. Many families have introduced their children to lawn bowls at a tender age. What other sport is there that can have 3 generations of one family play together and experience each others company for hours and feeling bonded to one common goal. The club is very focused on ensuring our members have an active social life as well as enjoying their bowls. With a social convenor organising events ranging from games nights, BBQ, bingo, whist and race nights these events are regular attended by not just our club but other club members also.
